Never Face a Blank Page Again: Strategies for Writers
Written on
Chapter 1: The Morning Routine
Let me share a glimpse of my morning.
At 8 am, I rise, enjoy breakfast, engage in some exercise, and then settle down to write. Within an hour and a half, I’ve completed my writing tasks: two stories and my newsletter. It’s quick, efficient, and satisfying.
After that, I move on to my other daily responsibilities. I don't know about you, but I thrive on productivity—no interruptions until I complete everything on my list. I enjoy having an organized and tidy environment.
Now, I’ll reveal my secret to generating ideas for two stories every single day, without the frustration of staring blankly at a wall.
Section 1.1: Finding Inspiration in Daily Life
I draw inspiration from my everyday life. As I go about my day, I often find myself contemplating potential articles to write. Various aspects of my life—my routine, relationships, business concepts, and productivity techniques—can all serve as topics for my next story.
I particularly enjoy writing about how I tackle challenges, as that’s what many people seek. Just look at the abundance of relationship advice on platforms like Medium; you’ll see countless examples in any subject area.
Have you ever wondered why they resonate so well? It’s simple: people are in search of solutions. Identify the problems you’ve navigated in your life and share those insights with others.
Subsection 1.1.1: Writing While Living
When I write in tandem with my daily life, everything flows more easily. On some days, as I sit down, my mind drifts to other tasks at hand. Instead of feeling trapped in my thoughts, I’ll take action to clear my mind for writing.
As I engage in my chores, I mentally draft my story, which proves far more productive than just sitting idle. By the time I finally sit down to write, I can hardly type fast enough. It’s the most effective way to write—give it a shot!
Section 1.2: Keeping an Idea Bank
Always jot down your ideas as they come to you. I prefer to note them in the form of titles—it only takes about 20 to 30 seconds. If you have extra time, feel free to add some key points.
This technique is incredibly powerful. There are moments when I feel uninspired, yet a glance at my notes reveals a treasure trove of forgotten ideas.
Chapter 2: Planning Ahead
The night before, I decide which story I’ll focus on. I review my saved titles and select one idea, then spend around 3 to 4 minutes drafting a plan.
By “plan,” I refer to the subtitles you see in my posts. An additional 3 to 4 minutes is spent refining the title to make it more engaging. At this point, I’ve completed about 50% of the work.
There are, however, days when inspiration doesn’t flow easily. In those instances, I don’t dwell on it—I write whatever comes to mind.
