Chapter 1 Discovering Hidden iPhone Shortcuts
Let’s explore how you can empower your iPhone with some incredible shortcuts that you may not have known existed.
Section 1.1 Search Across Multiple Websites
The "Search On" shortcut allows you to easily search for a term across ten popular websites. When activated, it prompts you to input a keyword and then lets you select from sites like:
- YouTube
- Instagram (for Hashtags)
- Amazon
- Bing
- DuckDuckGo
- eBay
- Yahoo!
Once you choose your desired site, the results appear quickly, saving you the hassle of manually visiting each page. For those who are tech-savvy, you can even add additional sites to your search list. Isn’t this a more efficient way to browse?
Section 1.2 Share Your Wi-Fi Without Revealing the Password
If you’ve set a long and complex Wi-Fi password, like "dUdnif-xazrim-5wyfke," you know how hard it can be to share it with friends. Instead of simplifying your password to "MyWiFiPassword," try the 'Wi-Fi QR Code' shortcut.
When you activate it, simply input your Wi-Fi name, password, and security option. For instance, if your Wi-Fi is named "MyWifi" with a password of "P@55w0rd" and uses WPA/WPA2 security, a QR code will be generated.
Just display the QR code to anyone needing access, and they can connect without having to enter your long password.
Note: While this shortcut does not keep your password hidden from their device settings, it simplifies the sharing process significantly.
Section 1.3 Create and Manage Profiles with Proteus
One of my favorite shortcuts is Proteus, which allows you to set up specific profiles that activate based on your location or time. For example, at your workplace, you might want to enable Do Not Disturb and Wi-Fi, while turning off Bluetooth and mobile data, and adjusting the media volume to 50%.
You can create a profile named "Office" and activate it as you arrive, automatically applying all settings without manual adjustments. You can set up profiles for different locations such as Home, Gym, or Parties, each with their own custom settings.
How convenient is that?
Section 1.4 Shazam for Your Favorite Music Apps
If you prefer streaming music through platforms like YouTube Music or Spotify, the Shazam++ shortcut is for you. This tool lets you designate a preferred app for opening songs you identify with Shazam, rather than defaulting to Apple Music.
Supported apps include:
- Spotify
- YouTube Music
- Pandora
- And many more...
In addition, you can view song details, find lyrics, and even download tracks directly through the app.
Section 1.5 Dictate Notes on the Go
For those always on the move, the 'Dictate to Notes' shortcut is a lifesaver. This feature allows you to dictate your thoughts, which are then transcribed into a note in real-time.
When you’re done, the note is automatically created with a timestamp, making it easy to keep track of your ideas.
Section 1.6 Simplify PDF Page Extraction
Extracting pages from a PDF can be a tedious task, but the 'Extract PDF Pages' shortcut simplifies the process. After installing it, you can easily select a PDF file and choose which pages to extract without altering the original document.
This shortcut is perfect for anyone who frequently works with PDF documents.
Section 1.7 WhatsApp Without Saving Contacts
Ever been asked to message someone on WhatsApp without wanting to save their contact? You’re not alone. Instead of adding their number, simply type "wa.me/<country code><phone number>" into Safari, and you’ll be directed to their chat instantly.
To streamline this, the 'WhatsApp a Stranger' shortcut allows you to enter the number directly and initiate a chat without saving it first.
Now, you can easily reach out to new contacts without cluttering your phone’s address book.
