Maximizing Your Weekend: The Joy of Early Saturday Mornings

Written on

Chapter 1: Embracing the Early Morning

For a significant portion of my twenties, I adhered to a familiar routine: Saturdays were synonymous with sleeping in. The weekends typically involved late nights on Fridays, either out socializing at bars or indulging in Netflix marathons, leading to a sluggish start the following day. I'd eventually rouse myself, search for coffee, and spend most of the day lounging around.

I believed this was simply how weekends were meant to be. However, I recently uncovered the incredible potential of an early Saturday morning.

Rise & Shine

My revelation emerged quite unexpectedly, as many great insights do. A few friends and I embarked on a month-long health challenge, which included a commitment to sobriety. With no drinks and a daily exercise routine, I found myself opting for quieter Friday nights, leading to an earlier bedtime.

Consequently, I began waking up well before noon on Saturdays, and it was absolutely delightful.

More Time for You & Your Passions

Waking up early on Saturday offers two significant advantages: enhanced productivity and an extended weekend experience. Previously, I would only rise early during weekdays for classes or work, which often left me uninspired and unmotivated. Saturdays, however, provide a blank canvas free from obligations, allowing ample time for personal hobbies and interests.

This newfound time permits me to invest focused effort into activities I genuinely enjoy, like chess and writing. Knowing I have several uninterrupted hours to delve into my interests truly fuels my inspiration.

The second, and perhaps most compelling reason to embrace early Saturdays, is that it creates the sensation of a longer weekend. We all yearn for weekends to stretch out a bit more, and since the calendar is unlikely to change, waking up early is a fantastic alternative.

Time is relative; by maximizing enjoyment and productivity during the weekend, it feels much more expansive. Moreover, dedicating extra time to what truly matters leaves us feeling more fulfilled.

If you find your weekends slipping away too quickly or feel you lack sufficient time for hobbies or side projects, consider giving an early Saturday a try. And if you're feeling adventurous, why not extend that to an early Sunday as well?
