Finding Balance: Grace in Unfinished Tasks and Daily Priorities

Chapter 1: Embracing Grace
Have you crossed off everything from your to-do list? It’s important to recognize that you deserve compassion for the tasks left incomplete.

Did you manage to achieve your goals yesterday? Each morning, I jot down one specific action that could make my day fulfilling. Typically, this is a proactive statement, such as, “Today will be satisfying if I finish one of the projects on the dining room table.”
I simply write down the first thought that comes to me, often a solitary item on my ‘get-to-do list.’ It could be something I’ve been avoiding or a task that’s overdue, perhaps one that will help my day flow better.
Even with the best strategies and schedules, unforeseen circumstances can divert us from our intended accomplishments. If you fell short of your goals, remember to extend yourself some grace.
We all juggle daily obligations, the needs of others, and our own well-being. Prioritization is key. I recall a time when I always put others first. While that isn't necessarily the healthiest approach, it’s a lesson learned from experience.
Every day presents us with choices. The multitude of possible actions can significantly influence the direction of our day. Some choices are within our control, while others are not.
What was my intention yesterday? I planned to finalize a draft of my newsletter for the upcoming week. This was the same goal I had set the day prior.
On the first day, I spent an hour on the phone with my insurance provider regarding the approval status of my medications. In the end, I discovered they were indeed approved, and I could pick them up at the pharmacy later. (That’s a story for another time.)
Yesterday, I opted for a spontaneous family outing instead. Prioritizing family over tasks on my list felt right. My newsletter draft can wait until tomorrow.
I allowed myself grace for not meeting my intended goals.
You might be thinking that both of my reasons were valid. But what truly constitutes a good reason for not completing your tasks? Ultimately, it’s up to you to determine that. If you spent the day scrolling through social media without a purpose, that might not be a sufficient justification. However, you might also find yourself dealing with uncontrollable events that take precedence.
What you manage to accomplish often hinges on recognizing your priorities and understanding yourself.
Did you meet your goals yesterday? If not, did you extend yourself some grace?
