Embrace Life's Moments as You Would a Business Opportunity

Chapter 1: The Wisdom of Mickey Singer
Many of you may be familiar with Mickey Singer, a prominent spiritual mentor of mine. His teachings, cultivated over a decades-long spiritual journey, are not only insightful but also practical, resonating deeply with me.
You might assume that someone as enlightened as Mickey would lead a solitary existence, but that’s far from the truth. In fact, he was a highly successful entrepreneur. He became fascinated with computers in the early 1970s, long before the likes of Bill Gates and Steve Jobs revolutionized the industry. Ultimately, Mickey developed the most successful medical office billing software ever created.
Mickey Singer: The Entrepreneurial Journey
While I'm not privy to his net worth, it’s safe to speculate that it hovers around the billion-dollar mark. What did he choose to do with his wealth? If you guessed extravagant purchases like luxury cars, sprawling mansions, yachts, or rare wines, you would be mistaken.
Aside from acquiring extensive land in Florida, which now hosts his Temple of the Universe, his lifestyle remains remarkably humble. In every video I’ve watched, he consistently wears khaki pants paired with a long-sleeved, navy blue knit shirt.
Why delve into Mickey’s business acumen and wealth? Recently, I heard him share something profound that captured my attention.
Accepting Life's Moments
Mickey discussed the importance of how we approach each moment in our lives. He emphasized that the first step in addressing any situation should be to accept it for what it is. Why? Because it reflects reality. Resisting what is only leads to frustration.
Unfortunately, many individuals spend their moments in resistance, from minor annoyances like long checkout lines to significant setbacks such as breakups. This resistance is detrimental to our well-being.
Accept, Don’t Resist
The crux of Mickey’s message was to treat every moment as if it were a critical business decision. A savvy businessperson doesn’t panic upon receiving unfavorable news. Instead, they pause, collect their thoughts, and ask, “What strategies can we implement to improve our situation?” They don’t squander time lamenting the past.
You might be thinking, “My boss panics whenever challenges arise.” That may be true, but remember, I’m referring to competent business leaders.
The Power of Acceptance
Many people mistakenly view acceptance of each moment as a sign of weakness or passivity. This perception is flawed. Acceptance is about taking a situation that has occurred—one that cannot be altered—and optimizing it to the best of your ability.
Conversely, lamenting your circumstances is unproductive. Questions like, “Why does this happen to me?” or “Why do I have the worst sales team in Wisconsin?” are signs of weakness. They not only hinder your progress but also impact your overall well-being.
Approach life like a skilled business professional. With every moment the universe presents, begin with acceptance. Then focus on transforming those moments into positive outcomes.
It’s beneficial for your business and for your personal growth.
