Fluoride Detox: A Personal Journey to Thyroid Health

Chapter 1: Understanding My Thyroid Issues
Over the past few weeks, I've embarked on a transformative journey. After countless attempts to shed weight, including juice cleanses and low-carb diets, I decided to take a thyroid test. The results revealed an unexpected culprit: fluoride. I’m not here to delve into the scientific debate surrounding fluoride; instead, I aim to share my personal experience.
When I discovered my thyroid was underactive, my immediate thought was “why?”. Despite exercising regularly, staying hydrated, prioritizing sleep, and maintaining a healthy diet, I couldn’t fathom that age was the sole factor at play. After all, advancing age doesn't inherently lead to thyroid dysfunction.
This realization marked the beginning of my quest for a solution without medication. I turned to various thyroid diet books and soon recognized that my two-year vegan lifestyle might have hindered my health. Many so-called "healthy" vegan products are loaded with seed oils, which can negatively affect thyroid function due to their unfavorable omega-3 to omega-6 ratio. While foods like salmon and eggs are beneficial, oils like rapeseed and canola are detrimental. Despite claims that bleaching removes harmful components, I prefer to avoid bleached oils altogether.
Next, I examined the impact of EMF radiation—my phone now stays in airplane mode whenever feasible.
However, the most shocking revelation was the presence of fluoride in my drinking water. I was surprised to learn that only about 10% of the UK has fluoride added to their water supply, while 97% of European nations have banned it. Proponents argue that fluoride prevents tooth decay, but the opposing viewpoint highlights numerous potential health risks.
Interestingly, the decline in tooth decay rates in the UK since fluoride was introduced mirrors the trends in the 90% of the UK that doesn't consume fluoridated water, as well as much of Europe. So, while decay rates have dropped, it appears that fluoride might not be the determining factor.
This led me to ponder whether other health issues have escalated—such as ADHD, thyroid disorders, reproductive problems, and osteoporosis. My bone density was decreasing when it should have been stable. I had suffered from migraines monthly for over a decade and had recently received an ADHD diagnosis. However, could it be that these issues were concentrated in my immediate environment? The evidence suggests not.
So, I made a change. I began drinking bottled water, specifically Icelandic glacial water, reputed to be one of the best options for avoiding fluoride. Although it was a temporary expense, I wanted to see if it would yield any improvements before investing in a permanent filtration system.
The initial two weeks were challenging. I experienced withdrawal symptoms like never before, leading me to question whether I was truly addicted to my tap water. Despite my skepticism, I found myself drinking tap water to alleviate the discomfort. It was a strange experience, but it convinced me to persevere.
During this phase, I faced the most intense menstrual cycle I've ever had, with excessive bleeding that made it impossible to leave home. I spent days researching fluoride withdrawal symptoms but found little reliable information. Most studies acknowledged the symptoms but offered inconclusive results.
Once the bleeding subsided, something remarkable occurred: I felt clearer, my skin became smoother, my hair softer, and my sleep quality improved significantly. I haven’t experienced a migraine or any pre-menstrual symptoms, and my focus has sharpened remarkably. I’ve managed to go a week without needing medication.
For the first time, I could think and see clearly; I didn’t realize how foggy my mind had become. My metabolism seems to be functioning better, and I no longer crave unhealthy foods, particularly sugar.
As I continue this journey, I’ve purchased LifeStraw filter bottles to further ensure my water quality. In a couple of months, I plan to retest my thyroid markers, and I have a strong intuition that I’m on the right path.
I’m consuming more food without gaining weight, having eliminated seed oils from my diet. We've also switched to fluoride-free toothpaste.
I’m sharing this to provide a personal account of my fluoride withdrawal experience, as I found a lack of firsthand narratives online. While it’s crucial for anyone with health concerns to consult a healthcare professional, I wanted to explore natural options before resorting to pharmaceuticals like thyroxine.
Stay tuned for updates on my progress!
