In a 2019 survey conducted by Bloomberg, 7,000 owners of the Tesla Model 3 shared their thoughts about both their vehicles and the visionary behind them.

"A key finding was clear: Tesla had successfully created a game-changer in the automotive industry. Owners attributed this achievement to Musk's remarkable abilities."

Fast forward to today, and the landscape has shifted considerably. Musk's acquisition of Twitter, now rebranded as X, has seen him dedicate significant time to managing the platform.

Despite this distraction, Tesla owners continue to express their enthusiasm for their cars. However, a recent Reuters report suggested that "Tesla formed a covert team to handle numerous complaints about driving range" (feel free to reach out for sources).

Unfortunately, many fans feel let down by Musk, as revealed in a new Bloomberg survey.

"From a series of questions mirroring our 2019 survey, the most notable shift was a decline in Musk's favorability. The follow-up survey consisted of over 130 inquiries; the lowest ratings were linked to his 2022 acquisition of Twitter, now known as X, and the controversial tweets that followed."

Musk's unique persona has played a pivotal role in establishing Tesla as a leading automaker in past years. However, it appears he may now be jeopardizing his own personal brand, which could have repercussions for his business ventures.

Consumers generally don't connect with brands on a superficial level; instead, they often anthropomorphize them. By purchasing products bearing a recognizable logo, individuals seek to emulate others—whether they are real or fictional.

Musk has fostered a connection between his identity and Tesla, leading many to equate the two.

He has cultivated an image as a flawless entrepreneur, capable of transforming anything into success. Should his venture with X falter, which seems likely, it will adversely affect Tesla owners' expectations of their vehicles.

Even though X operates independently of Tesla, Musk's potential missteps in the realm of social media and his unpredictable decisions could gradually tarnish the Tesla brand.
