PARANORMAL SOURCES OF STRESS If after you read the material below, you would like help with a paranormal stress you are experiencing, then click here. • Paranormal stress usually involves just one session. As with initial remote Reiki sessions, there is no charge. However, any donation you wish to make based on the benefit you feel you received is appreciated. Sometimes I have found the source of our stress—anxiety, fear, depression, addiction, anger, and physical pain—can be paranormal. And the relief of such stress is found in a spiritually-based intervention. Since my own life-changing spiritual experience in 1995, I have helped many people find relief from unusual sources of stress. Below are some examples. Overview of my Discovery of the Paranormal & My Conclusions After years of doing in-depth therapy, I came to realize that love is more than a feeling: love is the essence of who we are at the core of our being. However, it was from my experience with ancient-spiritually-based healing that I discovered the miracle and magic of love. Love is the ultimate power driving the universe. The energy of love is the life-force energy that animates and energizes all of life: people, animals, and plants. I have also experienced how this love is an enduring energy that lives on after our body dies. Indeed, love can transcend space, time, and death. Bottom of Form (Note: For those of us raised Christian the following cases may seem to be forbidden territory. However, scroll down and see section regarding my introduction to clinical depossession and Spirit Releasement Therapy (SRT). See what happened when I prayed and asked for guidance about having a session of SRT. And remembeer that Luke tells us, “Then he [Jesus] called his twelve disciples together and gave them power and authority over all demons and to cure diseases." And elsewhere, Jesus said, "Verily, verily, I say unto you, he that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do . . . because I go unto my Father.")The Stress of a House that Wouldn’t Sell One couple was trying to sell their house but were having trouble. A ghostly apparition of a woman would appear. Prospective buyers would feel a sudden cold that would send them scurrying from the house. The couple had learned to live with the earthbound spirit the woman who had died there. Fifty years earlier, her husband had bought the house for her. She died of cancer shortly after moving there and never got to enjoy living there with him. Drawing my training in Reiki, my training with Dr. William Baldwin, the founder of Spirit Releasement Therapy, and my training with the Mayan shamans, I helped the spirit of the woman move on. The couple’s stress over not being able to sell their house was relieved. The Distraught College Student I received a referral to help a female student at NYU. Ever since she had experimented with drugs as a sophomore, she had experienced the stress of strange symptom. From time to time, she experienced something invading her. She would become agitated and mean toward her roommate. The experience would last for hours and then stop. She would have to fight an urge to break things. She felt that she was possessed by some kind of hostile entity. She went to the NYU library and came across Dr. Edith Fiore’s book The Unquiet Dead. The clients Dr. Fiore described suffered the same kind of symptoms that she was, and so she called Dr. Fiore for help. Dr. Fiore recommended Dr. William Baldwin who is in Florida. Dr. Baldwin referred her to a man in NY who trained in Spirit Releasement Therapy when I did. He, in turn, referred her to me, and I agreed to help the young woman. I did a distant Reiki healing session in which I used my integration of shamanic spirit extraction with Baldwin’s Spirit Releasement Therapy. The young woman called me a week after the session to thank me. Her paranormal stress was relieved; sh could feel the hostile presence was gone. Of all the spirit releases I have done, this was a huge dark energy being, what traditionally has been called demonic. A Mother Who Passed Away 20 Years Ago Appears and Helps Me Help Her Daughter After an appearance on Fox News Network’s nationally televised The O’Reilly Factor, I had an experience that was right out of the movie The Sixth Sense. It was only a few hours after my appearance when I was watching television in my bedroom. The room was well-lighted. During a commercial, I nodded out for a few seconds. When I opened my eyes, I saw a striking woman, a brunette, wearing a black suit. She appeared to be in her thirties. This elegant woman’s beauty was a cross between Gloria Vanderbilt and Jackie Kennedy Onassis. She was seated in the chair at the foot of my bed staring directly into my eyes. I had a thought that she was the spirit of Ann who was a woman in her forties who had died a year earlier. Ann was Gretchen’s friend of twenty years. Gretchen, who was also in her forties, had called me the night before I was to go on The O’Reilly Factor. However, I was puzzled because somewhere I had gotten the impression that Ann was a blonde and not a brunette. Gretchen was consulting me for help with her continuing pain over the loss of her dear friend Ann. As I looked into the eyes of this brunette in black, I said, “Ann?” With that, I felt the sensation of energy come through the back door to my heart and fill me from head to toe. At the same time, the woman atomized before my eyes the way perfume becomes tiny droplets when sprayed into the air. I say atomized because it was as if her spirit had coalesced into a mass of some kind of misty molecules or atoms. Immediately after this apparition atomized, I called Gretchen and asked her what Ann looked like. I told Gretchen, “I think I may have had a visitation from Ann’s spirit.” Gretchen said she would e-mail me a picture of Ann. When I received my e-mail and looked at her picture, I saw it was as I suspected. Ann was blonde. I wrote Gretchen an e-mail to tell her that it was not Ann. I went to e-mail Gretchen but the e-mail would not go through. I tried four times. Then I thought that maybe the visiting spirit was Gretchen’s mother. I added this thought to my e-mail. It went right through. Gretchen called me and confirmed that the description of the woman in black sounded like her mother. Shortly after her mother’s death, Gretchen told me she was visited by the spirit of her mother. The interesting thing to me was the clinical significance of this vision of Gretchen’s mother. Her appearance gave me insight into what was complicating Gretchen’s bereavement. Gretchen was losing her mother all over again with the death of Ann. For Gretchen, the wound of losing her mother had been ripped open again by Ann’s death. The other thing I noticed was that Gretchen’s loss of Ann was complicated by what could be termed the ugly ducking syndrome. Just like the ugly duckling in the children’s story, Gretchen did not appreciate her inner and understated outer beauty. From my vision of her mother, I could see that Gretchen grew up in the shadow of a very beautiful mother. Ann stepped in and filled her mother’s shoes as she was flamboyant and charismatic. Again, Gretchen was overshadowed. Ann was outgoing and popular. Having compared herself first to her mother and then to her friend, Gretchen had never developed a strong sense of self-worth apart from her mother and her friend. This insight helped me help her begin to deal with the loss of her mother and friend as more than the loss of two very important people both of whom she had loved deeply. She experienced the loss of her mother and friend as a loss of the external source of her self-worth. For Gretchen, feeling good about herself was tied up with Ann’s charismatic qualities. With Ann as her friend, she could borrow a sense of worth—worth by her association with an attractive and dynamic friend. Gretchen’s situation reveals how time, distance, and even death do not interfere with our being connected to each other. As I mentioned in 8 Steps to Love, I have felt the palpable loving energy of people’s deceased loved ones bringing comforting messages of love during Reiki healing sessions. I would get a small snapshot of the person’s departed loved one. But with Gretchen, the appearance of her mother from beyond the grave was much more dramatic. Her deceased mother appeared to me to be as real as any fully alive full-bodied flesh-and-blood person. It is interesting to note that just a few hours before this paranormal experience, I had been on The O’Reilly Factor to discuss Dr. Phil McGraw who had made his weekly appearance on Oprah. I was to critique Dr. Phil’s work with individuals and couples. My role was to draw on my clinical experience in my work as a psychologist. Here I was engaged in trying to help Gretchen only a few hours after my appearance on national television. Then it hit me, my approach could be described as Dr. Phil meets John Edwards. On his show called Crossing Over, John Edwards helps audience members with their grief by communicating with their departed loved ones. I was attempting to use my clinical skills to help Gretchen with her grief only I was blessed with the added benefit of having seen the spirit of her deceased mother. This paranormal event helped me apply my clinical insights. Love and concern do not die. In this case, a mother returned nearly two decades after she had died to help her daughter through me. My Initial Experiences with The Paranormal: Healing Reunions Restore our Connection to Love What I am about to describe is a sequence of strange events that caught me by surprise. The events happened when I used Reiki with some of my psychotherapy patients. These first experiences with Reiki revealed that the essence of who we are is love and this love lives on after we die. Right there in my office, I experienced firsthand how this love is an enduring energy that does indeed transcend space, time and death. It was shortly after my training in Reiki when I introduced it to a few of my patients for the sole purpose of relaxation training. This involved the person sitting in a chair while I placed my hands gently over his or her eyes. I would then experience the following sequence of completely unexpected events. In some cases the experience was so deeply moving that it brought tears to my eyes. Here is the sequence of what would occur: 1. I would feel sensations coming into my back; it felt as if the energy of a person was stepping into me. The film Ghost depicted what I felt. 2. Then I would get a snapshot-sized picture of a person in my mind which seemed located slightly to the right of my right eye. I would then describe the picture to the individual in the chair receiving Reiki. 3. Words would pop into my mind along with a strong wave of love for the individual in the chair; it seemed to be coming through me from the person I was picturing. I would feel filled with this strong feeling of love that was not my feeling for the person sitting in the chair. I would sometimes be moved to tears as though I was witnessing a very moving reunion between two people long separated. It was like the feeling we all may get watching a movie that touches us. For the next few minutes, I would relay messages that would just pop into my mind. The messages felt like they were coming from the person I was picturing and were intended for the person seated before me. This would all take place while I continued to hold my hands over the eyes of the person receiving Reiki. 4. I would bring the Reiki session to a close in the same way I would bring someone out of trance after doing hypnotherapy. I would make the usual suggestions that the person bring his or her awareness back into the room and awaken refreshed. The person in the chair would identify the deceased loved one. It was usually a relative, lover, or friend. 5. Each time I would find myself struck by how the therapeutic principle of expressing the unexpressed feelings between people and resolving unfinished business seemed to hold true from beyond the grave—especially expressing messages of love and forgiveness. Case of a Woman Suffering from Bulimia: A Healing Reunion I told Bonnie, the thirty-six-year-old woman seated before me that, “I’m getting the picture of an elderly woman wearing white bobby-socks and a long blue dress with white dots on it. She wants you to know that she loves you very much and she wants you to start believing in yourself.” I could really feel a deep love coming through me for Bonnie from somewhere beyond me. Later, Bonnie identified the person as her deceased grandmother. Bonnie told me that she had experiences where she had not only felt the presence of her grandmother but could smell her perfume. Next to the picture of Bonnie’s grandmother, I saw the picture of a man in his mid-thirties wearing bib-overalls. I assumed it was her grandfather at a younger age. It wasn’t. From the description and the words that came through, Bonnie identified the man as a friend from high school that had committed suicide. The message that came through was, “It wasn’t your fault.” This was followed by, “I never blamed you for not calling me back that night. I want you to stop blaming yourself and forgive yourself.” A little later on the message was, “I know you would’ve called me back if you knew what I was feeling.” I had Bonnie talk to the man in the same way I would have had her do if I were having her use the Gestalt Therapy technique called the empty chair. The individual talks to the empty chair as though the person with whom they have unfinished emotional business is seated there. This could be with someone in her life currently or from the past. Bonnie had her eyes closed and I asked her to visualize the man. She sobbed as she expressed her feelings of guilt and sadness over not calling him back that night when he later took his own life. Each time Bonnie spoke, I would immediately receive and repeat the words, “I know.” These words were accompanied by a warm feeling of an all-knowing compassion which felt like it was coming from her deceased friend. Finally, after all these years, she was able to release these feelings that would return to haunt her from time to time. My Introduction to the Work of Clinical Depossession and Spirit Releasement Therapy Up until the Fall of 1995, I looked at life as a traditionally trained psychologist who used Jungian and Gestalt approaches. I had the good fortune of having for my mentors: Dr. David Hart, a Jungian analyst who was trained by Jung himself in the late 1940’s in Zurich; and Dick Olney, considered a legend from Esalen Institute, who was trained by Fritz Perls the founder of Gestalt Therapy. The following is a review of the sequence of events that led me to the discovery of ancient-spiritually-based approaches to therapy and healing and their modern counterparts. My journey continues beyond what is below. For example, I have since been to Guatemala, where I had a chance to observe and participate in the Mayan healing practices such as their sacred fire ceremonies that also date back thousands of years. I found these practices to be very effective in mind-body healing. In August of 1995, I noticed that there were three different hypnotherapists who were reintroducing the age-old phenomenon of possession as an underlying problem of their clients. These therapists had developed a modern clinical way to approach it. They were presenting classes on clinical depossession at the annual National Hypnotherapy Convention held in Nashua, New Hampshire. I was intrigued by what the presenters had to say. I was amazed at the results they were getting with regard to emotional problems; but what was especially impressive were the results with physical problems. They reported having success with cancer and the Gulf War Syndrome. As I said from the outset, I have considered myself an empiricist and pragmatist in the tradition of William James. In terms of my clinical work, this means that truth is what is observable and what works. In this spirit, I decided to take a class. I felt it deserved investigating. One class was called Spirit Releasement Therapy (srt) with Dr. William Baldwin and his wife Judith. This therapy was taking a more positive slant on the concept of clinical depossession. This therapy had one primary premise. Just as bacteria and microorganisms can attach themselves to our bodies without our knowledge, so can various kinds of energies attach themselves to us without our awareness. The claim was that earthbound spirits of deceased human beings and dark energy beings drawn to our fear, rage or depression may form a parasitic relationship with us. Contrary to the dramatic displays of possession depicted in the movies, these nonphysical-energy parasites present as physical, mental and emotional symptoms that harm our health. Given what I learned from Dr. Ritchie’s nde, this seemed plausible to me so I decided to investigate further what Dr. Baldwin had to say. Baldwin indicated that he had developed steps to release the parasitic attachments and that doing so tended to relieve symptoms. Just as cleansing our bodies of parasites can restore our health, so releasing nonphysical-energy parasites can restore our health as well. I was uncertain as to whether to have a session with Dr. Baldwin, so I prayed and asked for guidance. After witnessing a solid presentation of clinical material and case demonstration of srt, I returned to my motel room and I flipped on the television. Of all the things that might have been on in the middle of August from sports to commercials to movies, I couldn’t believe my eyes. There on the screen was a scene from the epic film, The Greatest Story Ever Told. Usually this is on at Easter as it presents a chronicle of Christ’s life. The next amazing thing was that of all the possible places in the movie, I had turned it on right at the point where Christ is standing over a man writhing on the ground possessed by an, “unclean spirit.” I then watch as Christ proceeds to cast out the unclean spirit. I was utterly stunned at the synchronicity. Encounters with Extraterrestrials (Excerpt from 'A Matter of Love')Most people laugh and scoff at the topic of aliens or extraterrestrials. The humor hides the horrifying thought that we might be helpless victims of a superior intelligence. My personal experience, which I will go into in the next section of this chapter, counters that concern. When we remember who we are is not simply our bodies and reclaim our spiritual power, we are not vulnerable to unfriendly alien visitors wanting to experiment with us. As you will see, I believe our ultimate security rests in the power of love. My own experience was further confirmed by people’s experiences cited by Harvard psychiatrist and professor, Dr. John Mack in his book, Passport to the Cosmos. In training with Dr. William Baldwin, I learned that there are 3 types of extraterrestrial attachments that may occur. A solitary ET may come to our planet and attach to a human being as an earthbound spirit may attach. They may want to experience things the human being experiences through the body and its five senses. Then there are the ETs doing experiments on human beings. And then there are the ETs infested with dark energy who seek to control a human being. Beyond the Mask of Matter: My Experience of Thwarting an Abduction (Excerpt from 'A Matter of Love') The molecules of my body seemed to be changing. I was excited as I felt like I was going to levitate right up through the sheets and blanket covering me. The large figure standing in the darkness was unimportant to me. I was more focused on how much fun it would be to float up to the ceiling and see if I could touch my toes to the ceiling. I had never been able to float in a pool without my legs sinking so that only my face remained above water. I got the impression that an energy was lifting me up. At the same time that I felt an energy lifting me, I also felt as if a large palm, presumably the palm of the dark figure to my left, was lifting me. I started to slip off this palm. As I lost my balance, I was suddenly afraid of falling. As soon as I felt the fear of falling, I reacted by visualizing the Tibetan Reiki Master Symbol and I said, “With this sacred symbol, I attune myself to the Light and Love of the Holy Spirit.” I visualized the sacred symbol as part of my commitment to shift negative emotions like fear and anger back to love. I had been making it a spiritual practice to use my own steps, the ones I outlined in 8 Steps to Love, to shift all negative emotions to love. Instantly, my body went back to normal. I then noticed the large dark figure race out of my room. It moved so fast, there appeared to be a trail of streak lines behind it; it seemed terrified! Then the room lit up. It was as if everyone in the motel went into the parking lot, turned their car around, and shined their headlights into my room. Not likely at four in the morning! I then heard a soft sounding, whoosh. It seemed that a spacecraft of some kind had just taken off into the night sky. At that point, it hit me and I asked myself, “Did I just thwart an alien abduction?” Right after I got up, I went to see a friend who was a trance medium. I wanted to ask her about my experience. She went into trance and began to tell me about the dark figure. She described the figure as a male energy having a large oval head with the classic almond-shaped eyes of aliens or extraterrestrials. She described him as a dark energy being. There was no trace of kindness or benevolence about his energy only malevolence and arrogance. As she was contacting this being, the being became more puffed-up and arrogant. When that happened, I visualized the Tibetan Reiki Master Symbol again, and I repeated the phrase: “With this sacred symbol, I attune myself to the Light and Love of the Holy Spirit.” Immediately, I saw her head snap back and she came right out of trance exclaiming, “Something scared him! He just flew out of the room!” It seemed that my silently calling upon the Light and Love of the Holy Spirit sent him scurrying as it had the night before. What a beautiful gift and message! When we remember the Spirit of God within us, the power of love, we are invulnerable! Later, when I read John Mack’s work, Passport to the Cosmos, I found confirmation of what I experienced and discovered both personally and clinically. Nona and Abby, two of the abductees that Mack worked with, reported the same kind of thing that I had experienced. Nona described a “vibration under my back.” This was followed by “a sense of being lifted.” Abby told Mack that she felt as if her cells were “coming apart.” She went on to describe feeling that she was “becoming separated molecularly.” Similar to Nona, I felt as if the molecules in my body were changing so that I was going to levitate. But when I felt that I was losing my balance, my experience shifted to be more like what Abby described. As I felt that I was going to fall, I got an image in my mind of a huge palm under my lower back. I had not been aware of anything under my back until I felt that I was slipping. The palm was not physical; it was a configuration of energy. It was in the experience of another abductee named Isabel that I found confirmation for the spiritual aspect of my experience. Isabel discovered that sending the energy of love to the aliens and calling on a higher spiritual power had a profound impact on them. She reported sending love to angry aliens. Mack writes: “It seemed that as she sent positive love energy toward these angry beings, she could hear them shrieking and saw them running, then backing off through the wall.” Isabel was then approached by other aliens to whom she sent love and this time she called on Jesus. Isabel indicated that the aliens responded by making a “weird sound.” Then the alien “went down as if it were in pain.” Similar to Isabel’s experience, I saw the huge dark figure by my bed race the length of my room and pass through the wall. He did this when I called upon the Light and Love of the Holy Spirit. Calling on and connecting oneself to a higher spiritual power like Jesus or the Holy Spirit and thereby drawing on the power of love seemed to neutralize the angry aliens. Not all encounters with aliens are negative. Some abductees report experiencing a Light “linked to powerful feelings of love.” Matthew, another one of the abductees Mack saw, came away from his experience deeply moved. Mack writes, “For Matthew the core cosmic energy is virtually identical to love.” During his experience, Matthew felt a love that he described as “a thousand times stronger than ordinary human love.” Matthew concluded: . . . that physical love, erotic love, the energy of work, the energy of creativity, the blue sky, the spiral galaxies, the spaceships, use this energy . . . This energy phenomenon, is the life energy, is the cosmic energy. Because we don’t really feel it, we can’t comprehend it. Sequoyah Trueblood is a Native American that Mack interviewed about his abduction experiences. Like the Maya, the tribe he comes from claim that they are descended from the star people that come from the Pleiades. It is common for his people to not only see the star people land on earth; it is also common for members of his tribe to talk with them. For Sequoyah, the star people have been spiritual teachers. He told Mack the following: Every day the invisible ones, extraterrestrials, spirit—all the same— taught me and showed me how to be peaceful and loving in any situation, how to be thankful for all that has happened to me and to be thankful for all that was to come. Similar to Sequoyah, I had experiences with both the dark abducting aliens and the ones who were loving spiritual teachers. The two experiences that I had with the greenish-light beings whom I was told were Ascended Mayan Masters from the Pleiades were spiritually uplifting. These tall beings radiated love. There was one thing that struck me about the aliens that I had experienced or read about. Whether arrogant or loving, they were energy beings. They were beyond the mask of matter. I could see how and why scientists could find no conclusive proof of the existence of aliens. The stereotype of little green men with physical bodies did not apply. To begin to understand what I had experienced, I saw how we must get out of the box of scientific materialism. I could see that it was a materialistic fallacy to believe that aliens and their starships had to be physical. Not that they or their ships might not manifest in matter. It seems that they have to slow down their energy in order to take on a material form and be seen in physical reality. Mack quotes the famous Native American elder, Wallace Black Elk, on the ufo phenomenon. In his book, Black Elk Speaks, Black Elk says of the scientists, “They have to catch one first. They have to shoot it down and see what it is made of, how it was shaped and formed. But their intention is wrong, so somebody is misleading those scientists . . . But the biggest joke is on those scientists, because they lost contact with those star-nation people.” Black Elk’s words reminds me of what Jung called the trickster archetype. It cannot be pinned down. Just as soon as we think that we know something, the trickster trips us up and humbles us. I agree with Mack when he says: “It is as if the phenomenon were inviting us to change our ways, to expand our consciousness.” My experience of feeling the molecules in my body speeding up and changing had expanded my awareness. I was expecting to levitate, something I could never have conceived of before. I felt my body preparing to move through the mask of matter. Perhaps one day, we will be able to call out from the depths of our heart the way Walt Whitman did in this verse from his poem Salut Au Monde: My spirit has passed in Compassion and determination Around the whole earth . . . And if we are able to relinquish our narcissistic delusion that we are the only intelligence in the universe, maybe then our spirit can extend in compassion beyond the earth to embrace the stars. . . . Sincerely, Stephen Royal Jackson, Ph.D.
